I love this tour!
It's one of my favorite Cairns Day Trips.
You can choose to leave from the Cairns Central Station or the beautiful Freshwater Station.
Kuranda rail and skyrail have also teamed up to combine both trips to get the most enjoyment out of your day. This is one I would highly recommend.
I'd also recommend you start your trip on the Kuranda Scenic Rail and return on theKuranda Skyrail.
If you want to get the most out of your day, then take the train from Cairns Central as it goes to Freshwater next to pick up passengers.
Once you leave the Freshwater Station it winds around the Kuranda Range, overlooking Cairns.
It stops briefly at Stoney Creek Bridge so you can take photos, then heads off again to Barron Gorge. It stops here so you can take photos of the spectacular falls. They're at their best after a good rainfall.
All the way up the range, you'll get a commentary of the history of the Kuranda train, which is really interesting, even of you're not into history.
Kuranda Skyrail is magnificent and it almost didn't start.
There was a lot of controversy around the building of it, with petitions, debates and protesters.
The community was divided!
It became a heated topic of debate and a hot political issue!
Sanity prevailed and they began to build it. And what a magnificent construction it was! The environmental "nightmare" became an eco-tourism dream.
The care that the owners of the Skyrail have taken with the rainforest was, and still is exceptional.
Skyrail has won heaps of awards and apart from the environmental feat, it's a fantastic tourist attraction.
It takes about 1 1/2 hours one way and you'll take in some magnificent scenery.
It's an exhilarating experience!
Don't leave this one out of your itinerary for Cairns Day Trips.
This little village in the Rainforest has so many things to do, you'll be amazed at what's there.
They have heaps of wildlife parks, nature tours and shopping. And that's only the start of it...
Lot's of locals favor this as one of Cairns Day Trips to take their friends.
One of Cairns Day Trips most unique tourist parks and a celebration to the Indigenous people of the Rainforest is Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. It was founded more than 20 years ago and was originally based in Kuranda. As it became more popular, it expanded, requiring larger premises.
Now it's at the foothill of the Kuranda Range, right next to Skyrail.
They have day and night tours.
At the Day tour, you can learn to play the didgeridoo, throw a spear, enjoy firemaking and storytelling which is a huge part of the Aboriginal culture. You can also discover the medicinal values of their bush tucker and enjoy some traditional Aboriginal dancing.
The Night Tour is an Aboriginal Dance Show and Dinner.
Immerse yourself into a journey of ancient Tjapukai culture into what they call Dreamtime. Enjoy a traditional corroborree and listen to the haunting sounds of the didgeridoo. You'll also witness a spectacular fire making show and join the dancers around the campfire.
If you love riding horses, then take this tour.
What better way to experience true Aussie bush than to on a horse.
You'll be taken through beautiful rainforest and really get back to nature.
Blazing Saddles is a 1200 hectare working cattle farm and they have more than 30 well trained and good natured horses.
You'll be matched with your horse according to your experience and riding abilities.
The ride takes about 2 hours.
If you want something a bit faster than a horse, then Blazing Saddles has a fleet of All Terrain Vehicles (ATV). 250cc's and 90cc's for the younger ones.
They're easy to ride quad bikes and heaps of fun. You may need to take a change of clothes for this one.
Since 1980 the same local family has been running this award winning tropical zoo. It was originally named Wild World and is an accredited member of the Zoo and Aquarium Association.
Because of this, their aim is to educate people as well as provide an enjoyable, interactive and memorable experience.
The have a huge range of reptiles, birds and mammals along with wildlife displays and presentations.
They have something happening throughout the day.
You can feed the kangaroos and pelicans, get your picture taken while cuddling a koala, watch the live bird show or the crocodile feeding. You can even hold a Boa or a baby crocodile!
There's a lot more to see and do. Just wander around enjoying all the animals in their natural habitats.
Enjoy breakfast at the zoo. This is where one of the zoo keepers will come to you at your table and you can ask them all about your favourite wildlife animal. You can also get close to one of his companions…maybe a koala or a snake.
This is another one of my favored Cairns Day Trips.
Just for something completely different, try the Cairns Night Zoo! So experience the animals in a different light…pardon the pun.
Same owners of Cairns Tropical Zoo, this family knows all about wildlife, especially crocodiles!
About halfway between Cairns and Port Douglas is Hartley's Crocodile Adventures.
If you want to see lots of crocodiles and local wildlife, then this is the place to visit.
There's timber boardwalks and pathways through the rainforest, so you can enjoy all the native fauna and flora.
Take a boat cruise on Hartley's Lagoon to see some crocs in their own natural habitat.
Take a relaxing self guided walk through the Cassowary Garden. Learn all about this amazing flightless bird. It's a beautiful, but endangered species that has a critical relationship with other plants and animals. Because of it's critically low numbers, they've established a Cassowary Conservation Group in Mission Beach to educate people about this magnificent bird.
Hartley's also operates a commercial crocodile farm and they're bred and raised for their skins and meat. You can visit parts of the farm and learn all about how it works.
Of course, we can't forget the Snake Show and Crocodile Attack Show held every day and 2pm and 3pm respectively.

This may not be quite one of Cairns Day Trips, but it starts when it's still light, so it has to rate a mention.
Set sail for an evening cruise with 4 course buffet dinner.
On arrival, you'll receive a glass of Champagne and then once you set sail, enjoy Cairns by night from the luxury catamaran.
There's a bar on board, so you can sip on cocktails or enjoy a cold beer or have a glass of Australian wine.
They also provide live entertainment on board.
Your dinner cruise sails for 2 1/2hours, so there's plenty of time to savour the evening.
Another one of Cairns Day Trips that deserves a mention, even though it's more an evening cruise.
This 90 minute cruise takes you on Trinity Inlet.
You'll be welcomed with a wine, beer or soft drink and nibbles.
You can just take the sunset cruise or for a bit extra, you can enjoy a 3 course dinner at popular Dundee's Restaurant, which is only a short 2 minutes stroll from the boat.
A very special one of Cairns Day Trips to be taken.
This is a number 1 of the most romantic Cairns Day Trips.
Cairns is one of the best spots in the world to go hot air ballooning as the weather conditions are perfect.
You'll be picked up very early in the morning and taken to the ballooning site on theAtherton Tablelands.
You'll see the balloon take shape and then hop on board for a quiet, peaceful and romantic ride across the the landscape. There's no set direction, the balloon just floats gently through the air.
Other Cairns day trips will take you further North to Port Douglas, Daintree National Park and Cape Tribulation.
You can also head down south to the beautiful Mission Beach area or west to theAtherton Tablelands and Gulf Savannah. Then of course, we can't forget all theCairns Great Barrier Reef tours.
