Dundees has been around for years, however it hasn't always been in this spot.
They've moved a couple of times, but this is the best.
Position, position, position.
And Superb!
Really, that's how I would sum it up.
The setting! Who could beat it? No-one…
It's on the boardwalk at Marlin Marina. You can sit and look at the boats moored or watch other boats coming in and out.
Because it's facing the water, it's nowhere near the road, so no noisy cars or smelly car fumes!
The staff were really attentive and this was quite surprising as they had a huge crowd there.
They said over 300 people, but we couldn't see that as they used the premises of another restaurant that had closed down right next to them.
We didn't sit in the main part of the restaurant either, but that was ok because it was air conditioned and the main part only has fans as it's more al fresco dining.
Dundee's would have to be one of the best seafood restaurants in Cairns, however they also have some great steaks cooked on the grill.
The emphasis of the menu leans towards an Australian Cuisine, so they serve a lot of Australian foods, such as kangaroo and crocodile.
David ordered a 250gram grain fed Eye Fillet. (Of course)
It was cooked to perfection and looked delicious. He had mushroom sauce and a cute little deep fry basket full of steak house fries.
His only complaint was that the sauce was too runny and really didn't taste like a mushroom sauce.
I chose the Wild Barramundi Supreme.
It was served on roast sweet potato with prawns, mussels, scallops and a yabby in a creamy white wine sauce.
It really was good. The barra was really tasty, as were the prawns, scallops and mussels. The yabby was tasteless. It should have been boiled in salt water to enhance the flavor. Yabbies are freshwater crustaceans and look like a small crayfish. We call them Redclaw in the tropics.
The white wine sauce was gorgeous. If I was at home, I would have licked the plate, it was that delicious.
David and I both shared the Sticky Date Pudding
That also was a plate licking good dessert.
We just wished we had ordered one each.
Our overall impression?
If you're in Cairns, you must go there. It's well worth it and the prices are quite reasonable.
It's one of our favorite restaurants in Cairns.
