There's an abundance of free fitness stuff on the Esplanade.

You can get a personal free fitness program designed just for you while having fun keeping fit on the Cairns Esplanade.

There's even fun fitness activities for the kids.

Aqua Aerobics

What better way to get fit and have fun!

Burn calories without burning up and bring along a friend to exercise with.

It's a low impact workout that doesn't tire you out.

You'll be amazed when you see the results.

Anyone can participate, young and old, able and disabled, athletes and general exercisers.

So, get down to the Esplanade for your free fitness program.

Every Saturday morning at 8.30am.

Beach Volleyball

Opposite the Cairns Base Hospital are a number of beach Volleyball courts that anyone can have a game on.

If you want to have a game, but you have no one to play with, then they have an organised clinic on Monday afternoon at 5.30.

You can pick up a few techniques from the experts or just have a game.

The courts are open all day, everyday, except Wednesday when they open at 4pm.


You want more free fitness stuff?

This one will have you working to your full potential.

They say not to let the name fool you, but I've heard that one all too often!

It's supposed to be for anyone, but the name has fooled us, so we haven't given it a try.

But, if you're game, try it and let us know!

You'll be pushed and encouraged to try new things.

A basic fitness level is advised for this class, but it's not essential.

Wednesdays at 5.30pm


Bouldering. Fitness activities for kids and adults

What about some fitness activities for kids?

This is a totally unique way to get a free workout!

The Esplanade has Australia's first Bouldering Park.

Bouldering is a form of rock climbing at low height, so there's no need to panic.

It's safe, so perfect for the kids and suited to all levels of fitness.

Not much equipment is needed either. A bonus if you're here on holidays. No need for harness or ropes.

This is certainly a different form of exercise and something that most of us could try.

If you have climbing shoes, great bring them along, otherwise a pair of sneakers is fine.

Bring a water bottle and maybe a towel.

You'll learn and develop skills to solve a range of climbing problems.

Classes meet at the Bouldering Park, opposite the Cairns Base Hospital at 5.30 Tuesdays.


Boxing on the Esplanade

This is a fun boxing class that incorporates punches, kicks and knees to get you fit and strong - fast.

Based around boxing and kickboxing, you will learn how to hit and kick safely and effectively.

You'll burn fat and and get a complete cardio program while having fun.

Boxing is at 5.30pm on Mondays and 8.00am Saturdays.

Fitness Course

How much more free fitness stuff can you handle?

The Cairns Regional Council has put in a complete fitness course which is signposted all along the Esplanade.

There's exercise stations at regular intervals along the Esplanade, so you can stop and do a quick work out, then move on.

They're free and they're fun.


What a lovely way to workout and get fit!

Mumbalates is designed to have fun working out, because you're doing it with your baby.

Your free personal fitness trainer includes some baby play, pelvic floor and ab exercises.

Also some stretching and strengthening in a relaxed and casual way.

Meet other new Mums who want to keep fit with their babies.

What better way to get a free fitness program with you and bub?


Pilates emphasis is on balancing the development of the body through core strength, flexibility and awareness, in order to support efficient and graceful movement.

People who practice Pilates say they become stronger, longer, leaner and more able to do anything with grace and ease.

This is probably something I should look into!

Sahaja Yoga Meditation

For those who enjoy Yoga and mediation, then this is for you.

Be sure to wake up early to start the class.

It's on every Saturday morning at 7.30am.


Why not try some unusual free fitness stuff that the personal fitness trainers have put together.

This one means Vitality, Performance and Reconditioning.

If you want to burn lots of calories in a short time, take this class!

It's definitely not for the fainted hearted, so be prepared for a full free fitness workout.

Thursdays at 5.00pm


Zumba is a fun way to keep fit.

Dance to Latin music while you combine exercise moves to your workout.

No need to worry about being uncoordinated, you'll just blend into the crowd of participants.

It's so popular, you'll find about 500 others working out with you.

So there you have it…so much free fitness stuff that will suit everyone!

If you're feeling a bit sluggish after a long holiday, or you want to keep fit while you're staying in Cairns, then pop on down to the Esplanade to get that workout that your bodys craving.
