South Mission to Dunk Is. Compliments Paul Toogood

Mission Beach Holidays is the ultimate vacation spot where you can wind down or charge up. Lots to do or nothing to do. World class accommodation and restaurants, amazing attractions, exciting tours and wonderful wildlife. It's all here.

In a land that is all beaches and coastline, you know there has to be something special about a place if its claim to fame is being a great beach destination.

Mission Beach, Queensland is exactly one such place that is located about 140km south of Cairns.

Where else would you find 14km of almost secluded beach?

No jostling for space to lay your towel to sunbake!

Most people find that Mission Beach offers them a calming ambience unlike any that they’ve experienced – the tranquil of the turquoise seas, the beauty of the waterfalls, and the emerald green rainforests. Not to mention the gorgeous views towards Dunk Island, Queensland, Bedarra Island and the Family Island Group.

That is in fact only a small glimpse of what Mission Beach holidays are all about!

Some Sun and Lots of Fun

There really is a lot you can do on Mission Beach holidays if you don’t want to spend your time just relaxing.

White-water rafting and skydiving are on offer to set your adrenaline pumping, while diving on the Great Barrier Reef will leave you wanting more every single time.

You can also make your way to the Licuala State Forest, which is just a short 2 km drive from Wongaling Beach. There's several walking tracks amidst the native wildlife.

You can witness the green tree frogs, the Ulysses butterfly and if you're lucky, the flightless cassowary, and the melomies amongst the large range of wildlife.

Of course as you walk through these tracks you'll also appreciate the beauty of the Licuala Palm as it filters the sunlight in spectacular patterns.

Licuala Fan Palms

Another spectacular walking track is at the end of South Mission Beach and past the boat ramp.

You first come to a gorgeous little beach called Lovers Beach and then Lugger Bay. Walking through the rainforest and taking in some magnificent views of the Coral Sea and Dunk Island. Continue on past Tam O'Shanter Point, you finally find yourself at Kennedy Bay.

This secluded beach swings around and faces back up north. It's a beautiful spot if you want peace and tranquility with no one (and I mean no one) to even walk past. You'll pretty much find that along the whole of Mission Beach, but this beach more so. Take plenty of water and maybe even a picnic lunch.

When I lived here 20 years ago, I used to walk this track every morning for my daily exercise, but I'd only go halfway to Morgan's Lookout. That would take me an hour or two, depending on how fast I'd walk and it truly was exhilarating.

There was a time when you could take the stairs from the track and head on up to the Elandra Resort. Now it's closed to the public and only open to house guests, which is real shame.

Now For Somewhere To Rest

Dinner at Castaways

So, which one do you choose?

Not so easy. Do you choose beachfront or rainforest, ocean views from a hill top or Dunk Island views from sea level?

Do you want luxury or budget, resort or camping?

Mission Beach Holidays are for everyone.

One of my favorites is Castaways Resort and Spa.

David and I decided to take our RnR here. If you want a really relaxing holiday then this is the place to stay.

Its claim to fame is absolute beach frontage and that's pretty rare for an affordable, yet stylish resort.

Just about all the rooms in the resort have balconies or garden patios facing the beach. All that comes between your accommodation and the beach are the palm fringed gardens and lawns.

The resort has recently been refurbished, however our bathroom was in need of a better paint job.

Overlooking the partly done reno's, we had the best view one could wish for and the sound of the waves just lulls you to sleep.

The centrepiece of the resort is the Bibesa Beach Club Restaurant with the accommodation on either side.

We spent most of our time here, relaxing and taking in those amazing views of Dunk Island and breathing in the fresh air.

Rooms start from $165.00 per night

The best part about Mission Beach holidays is that with so much to do, you can have a whole new experience every time you visit!

After a day (or more, if that’s how you plan it) of activities, you can retire to the calm of the beach or laze around by the pool.
